Overview of the organisation
Strengths
• It was felt that we offered a strong and varied programme of activities
• Staff were praised for being welcoming and friendly
• Customers happy with the new booking time introduced
• There was an overall feeling of comradery at the centres
• Website was felt to be easy to navigate
Weaknesses
• Gym was felt to be too small at Worthing Leisure Centre
We are redesigning the gym and the weights room at Worthing Leisure Centre this year and will create more space when new equipment is in situ. There is a suggestion box currently situated outside the weights room.
• Some of our equipment is out of service for too long
Staff have been reminded of the importance of putting notices up letting customers know the reason for the fault and the date of repair.
• Changing facilities at Splashpoint could be cleaner
We are working hard to ensure that changing areas are kept clean and presentable. With the volume of users, it can be difficult to keep on top of this but we have cleaners permanently in situ at Splashpoint and will endevour to maintain high standards of service..
• Increased interaction required in the gyms at both Worthing Leisure Centre and Splashpoint
We are looking at making improvements in this area and are meeting with staff to put new procedures in place.
Ideas for further integration into our local community
• Film nights, open air opera and classical concerts at Field Place
Discussions have taken place in regards to expanding open air activities at Field Place. We will let you know of any additions to our programme. Meanwhile, we have an open air production of Wuthering Heights taking place August 24th and we would urge customers to book in advance to secure their space as limited tickets are available.
• Take over Teville Gate and use the area as an ice-rink
Worthing Borough Council have drawn up some initial plans for this area which is likely to include a leisure complex incorporating a multiplex cinema and shopping complex. The council will provide further information in due course.
• Netball club at Worthing College
We currently operate the gym and fitness suite at Worthing College. There are no plans at the
moment to increase activities in this area although further integration will be considered over the coming months.
• Additional rugby sessions
We are currently in conversation with Worthing Ruby Club with a view to expanding this area of
business. Walking Rugby was introduced recently and has proved to be successful.
• Beach Volleyball
We are currently putting in a tender to run the beach volleyball courts alongside Splashpoint
Leisure Centre. Further news will be forthcoming if our bid proves successful.
• Outdoor play area at Splashpoint
We are looking at redeveloping the paddling pool area at Splashpoint Leisure Centre pending funding.
• To integrate windsurfing and watersports within our programme
We are working with Worthing Borough Council with the aim of supporting a water sports festival in 2017.
• Tie in’s with organisations such as the British Heart Foundation
We currently work with a number of charities including the Worthing Churches Homeless Project, Race for Life, St Barnabus and the Sussex Wildlife Trust.
• Offering free first aid courses for Mums to teach them how to care for their kids
This is a great idea and we will investigate this as a possibility over the coming months.
